Project Description

Glen Eira Storytelling Festival — Campaign Identity & Festival Branding

We partnered with Glen Eira City Council to develop the campaign identity and visual system for the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival — an annual celebration of storytelling across written, spoken and performed word.

The project sits at the intersection of festival branding, cultural campaign design and community engagement, bringing together a diverse program of events across libraries, civic spaces and cultural venues.

The Opportunity

The Glen Eira Storytelling Festival brings together a wide-ranging program designed for both adults and children — spanning performances, workshops, talks and community events.

The challenge was to create a campaign identity that could speak across generations. It needed to feel warm and inviting without becoming overly playful or child-focused, while still capturing the richness and emotional depth of storytelling.

At the same time, the system needed to function across a complex communications environment — supporting everything from large-scale signage and printed programs to digital platforms and social media.

A Contemporary Take on Storytelling

Our approach was grounded in the idea that storytelling is both timeless and evolving.

Drawing on the visual language of folk traditions — gathering, narrative and shared experience — we developed a contemporary identity that feels both familiar and fresh. The creative direction balances warmth and clarity, creating a sense of connection without relying on literal or expected visual tropes.

The result is a campaign identity that feels human, inclusive and culturally grounded — designed to resonate across a broad and diverse audience.

Campaign Strategy & Visual Design

We created a flexible visual system that could adapt across a wide range of formats and touchpoints.

Strong graphic devices and a considered illustration framework allowed the identity to scale — from posters and large-format signage through to digital screens, social media and event-specific communications.

The system was designed to be both expressive and functional — ensuring consistency across all outputs while allowing enough flexibility to respond to different content, audiences and environments.

This approach demonstrates how festival branding and campaign identity design can operate as a cohesive system rather than a collection of individual assets.

Accessibility & Longevity

Accessibility was a central consideration throughout the project.

Typography, contrast and layout were carefully developed to ensure legibility across all formats, supporting a wide audience including families, seniors and people engaging through Council’s libraries and cultural programs.

The system was also designed for longevity. Rather than creating a one-off campaign, we developed a framework that can evolve over multiple festival years — allowing for shifts in colour, tone and seasonal expression while maintaining a consistent and recognisable identity.

Multi-Channel Delivery

The campaign was rolled out across a broad range of communication channels, including print, digital, signage, program design and social media.

Each touchpoint was designed to feel connected — reinforcing the identity while adapting to the specific requirements of each format.

The program publication played a key role, acting as both an informational guide and a core brand expression — bringing together content, imagery and structure in a way that supports both usability and visual engagement.

The Outcome

The result is a cohesive and expressive festival identity that brings energy and warmth to the Glen Eira Storytelling Festival.

The campaign helps position the festival as a meaningful cultural moment within the community — one that celebrates voice, creativity and connection through storytelling.

More broadly, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can support arts and cultural programs, creating communication systems that are accessible, adaptable and capable of engaging diverse audiences over time.
