The Herbalist Bells Beach — Botanical Skincare Branding & Packaging Design
A gentle, sensory brand world shaped by nature, ritual and place.
The Herbalist Bells Beach is a Surf Coast–based botanical skincare brand grounded in slow beauty, ethical sourcing and the restorative power of plant-based formulations. Our role was to translate this philosophy into a complete brand and packaging system — one that feels as considered and calming as the products themselves.
As the business evolved, there was a clear opportunity to elevate the brand beyond a small-batch skincare offering into a refined, cohesive identity.
The challenge was not simply aesthetic. The brand needed to express purity, ethics and botanical integrity while feeling premium without losing its grounded, humble nature. It needed to connect emotionally through sensory experience, while standing confidently within the growing natural skincare market.
At its core, this was about creating a brand that feels lived in, not manufactured — one that invites pause, ritual and connection.

Brand Strategy & Positioning
The brand is anchored in the idea of gentle beauty — a slower, more intentional approach to skincare that nurtures both skin and senses.
Strategically, we positioned The Herbalist as a premium botanical skincare brand grounded in place. The Surf Coast — from Jan Juc to Bells Beach — became a central influence, informing both the emotional tone and visual language of the brand.
This grounding in landscape and environment allowed the brand to feel authentic and sensory, while resonating with a broader audience seeking calm, considered and ethical beauty products. Rather than competing through noise, the brand creates space — offering a quiet confidence built on clarity and intention.
Identity & Packaging System
The identity was designed to feel refined yet understated — balancing modern clarity with organic softness.
A restrained typographic system creates longevity and ease of use, while subtle organic forms and brand marks introduce flow and warmth. The result is a visual language that reflects humble luxury — quiet, confident and enduring.
Packaging became the core storytelling device. We developed a collection-based system, using muted, earthy colour palettes to differentiate product ranges while maintaining cohesion across the brand.
Each collection draws from natural elements — earth, sea, sky and forest — allowing the range to scale while remaining intuitive and visually unified. The distinctive label form creates a strong shelf presence through simplicity, while maintaining a refined, minimal aesthetic.
Materiality, Texture & Brand Expression
A key differentiator in this project is the use of texture as a core brand element.
Subtle paper textures and layered surfaces introduce warmth and tactility — softening the visual system and reinforcing the sensory nature of the product experience.
This tactile approach extends across all touchpoints, from packaging through to brand collateral, photography and social content. Imagery is grounded in natural elements and human connection, reinforcing a sense of calm, ritual and environment.
Every detail was considered to ensure the brand is not only seen, but felt — creating a cohesive and immersive experience across physical and digital spaces.
